Piphony
Almost nothing you call your personality is yours. It was installed, by fear, one prohibition at a time, and it has been running your life without opposition ever since. Undoing shows you the machinery, then shows you how to take it apart.
The diagnosis
People contort away from their nature for fear, for acceptance, for survival, for approval. The contortion becomes invisible within about a decade. The cost never does.
Suppressed people build suppressed lives. Those lives, in time, break. Usually slowly, and then all at once.
The result
The machinery
It sits every day of your life. It decides what you believe, what you want, what you feel and what you do. The members are self-interested, their views are narrow, each one is arguing for itself, and not one of them is you.
"Fear was at the podium. Greed was running the agenda. But the authority to call the session to order was always Monarch's. It was never revoked. It was abdicated." Undoing
Monarch
You. The Chair.
Absolute authority, exercised almost never. Monarch does not come to argue, only to decide, and for most of your life has simply not come.
Charter
Who you actually are.
Charter sits mute at the table. It cannot speak. It can only pull you toward things and push you away from them, and you have spent thirty years calling that a mood.
Fear
Keeps you alive by keeping you small.
Speaks in absolutes and certainties. It has never once been asked for evidence, and it has never once offered any.
Greed
Wants, and calls it deserving.
Writes more of the agenda than any other member. Most of what you own arrived as a Greed proposal that you approved without reading.
Love
The gentlest lobbyist in the room.
Love wants to hum Céline Dion tunes while staring into a flower. It gets talked over constantly by members with sharper suits and better arguments.
Narrative
The lawyer.
Holds no position of its own. It is retained by whichever member needs a case made, and it is very good. If you hear something advocating inside your head, it is selling you something.
Cogitation
Your reasoning engine, on standby.
Neutral and amoral. It serves whoever asks, and it answers out of a fact base that Fear has been quietly editing since you were four.
The subsystems
Memory, and the rest of the clerical staff.
They do not set the agenda. They supply the evidence. Memory will produce exactly the recollection that supports whoever currently has the floor.
Three sentences arrive in your head all day long. Relabel them and watch what happens to their authority.
Do it on the very next one that shows up. No voice except Monarch is your voice.
A demonstration
You are walking past a bakery. Nothing is happening to you. In ninety seconds you will be holding a pastry you did not set out to buy, and you will believe you chose it. Here is the entire transaction, one approval at a time.
Believe
"That smells incredible."
Who would argue? It is the most agreeable proposition anyone will put to you all day, which is precisely why it passes without inspection. You said yes without noticing a question had been asked.
Feel
"You're hungry."
Hungry was not the condition. You were not hungry ninety seconds ago on the other side of the street, where the air was ordinary and nobody was selling you anything.
Want
"Just a coffee. Maybe something small."
The want arrives pre-discounted. Just. Only. Might as well. That vocabulary is not yours. It belongs to whoever is making the case, and it is there to keep the price out of view.
Act
You are holding a pastry.
You paid for it, so it felt like a decision. It was the fourth link in a chain, and by then saying no would have meant overturning three yeses you had already given.
Four proposals. Four chances to decline. You took none, and only the first one was cheap. Refusing to agree that a bakery smells good would have cost you nothing and felt faintly insane. Refusing the pastry at the till costs you everything the first three yeses have already bought. This is why willpower always feels expensive. You are spending it at the wrong end of the chain.
The first book
Every book in this genre tells you to look inward. None of them tell you what to look for, what to do when you find it, or when you are finished.
Undoing is a working method. It names the forces operating inside you, gives you the tests that expose them, and runs each one to a verdict you can act on. It has a beginning and it has an end.
This is not self-help. It is a reckoning.

No noise, and nothing you have read before. A note when the book is available, and occasionally a piece of the machinery, early.
Your email is yours. We don't sell it, share it, or misuse it.
The pain is not random. The life is wrong.
